Lowering Our 4WD Tahoe?

I want to lower my 2004 4WD chevy Tahoe with a DJM 3/5 complete lowering kit. Most people say it’s impossible ~ I’ve discussed with custom truck shops and they tell me it is POSSIBLE! Can I order the 3/5 lowering kit or does it have to go through a dealer? I’ve been doing a lot of research regarding the 3/5 drop. I’ve seen the DJM 3/5 Complete Kit for Suburbans, Tahoe’s, and Avalanche’s on the DJMSuspension.com website. Please respond promptly ~ Thank you kindly ~ Todd and Kim

Todd,

Well your research is correct mostly! You can use a 3/5 kit on your 04 4wd Tahoe, however we recommend the 3/3 kit! It is the same kit with a different rear coil spring, the 5″ rear coils for the Suburban just don’t ride worth a darn in the Tahoe. That said it is up to you, we just want to make sure your hip to the ride quality issue! Also the actual difference between the rear coil springs are about an inch of ride height! Here a link to the parts DJM Factory Store

    • Phil,

There are no lowering kits that I am aware of to lower the 4WD Twin I-beam suspension. The front drive axles actually go thru the I beams. It would be a very difficult and expensive project. Also try to avoid using shorter coils because they will induce negative camber in the front end that you cannot adjust out. Short coils just get you in big time alignment problems fast. Sorry to tell you this but alot of the 4WD rigs just can’t be lowered with a “off the shelf” type of kit.

  1. a little off subject, ive got a nissan titan and having trouble find a “quality” lowering kit. Any hope for a future application, could be a good business move! lol

    • Eric,

We have not made a Titan kit mostly because we have not had a Titan available for R&D and frankly demand is not real strong. I think that may be changing as the Titan line matures and when we can get one to hold still long enough to build a kit we will! Keep checking and feel free to bug us about it, that’s sometimes what it takes to get things done!!

  2. Hi I have a 2010 4×4 Tahoe LT I want a 4/4 drop. Can I do the 2″ lower arm and the 2″ spring to get 4″ front drop. Will this effect the front axle or aligment maxing out? Also a lil off the topic what is the spindle nut size? Thanks again guys!

    • Brett,

I’ve heard the same thing, check out tbss owners forum to find out more. We are working on a part for the Tahoe based on the Traiblazer spring. It will be available through the tbss guy’s!
